MAGNETS AND DOGS

How do they work?

Magnets have multiple effects on the body. Perhaps the most widely reported are that they increase blood supply to the area they are applied, and that they demonstrably and repeatedly assist injured bones to heal. In terms of choosing which magnets to use, we have gone to great pains to ensure that our magnetic therapy products contain magnets strong enough to be effective, and that they are positioned where they will do the most good.

At a very intrinsic level, magnetic fields make it easier for your body to do the things it does. Magnetic fields allow all your cells to work at maximum efficiency. In physiologic terms, most processes in your body involve the movement of charged particles across cell membranes. It is easier for this to take place in the presence of a magnetic field, therefore the system works more efficiently.

Why do living things respond so well to magnetic fields?
We were born to it! The earth is one big magnetic coil so our bodies are engineered to work in a magnetic field. It simply makes sense that applied magnetic fields will allow injured & damaged areas to heal more quickly. And that is what we see time & time again with the animals using our products.

What dogs have we treated?

ARTHRITIS
More correctly referred to as Osteoarthritis, this is a degenerative condition that effects the joints. In most dogs it is an accumulation of “wear & tear” on joint surfaces that activity can cause. Some dogs are predisposed to arthritis because they have conformational faults that place excessive strain on particular joints. Age and excessive weight are two other important factors. Through repetitive actions of exercise the protective hyaline cartilage that lines every joint can start to become eroded. This then produces friction within the joint and an ongoing cycle of degenerative joint disease. This can happen AT ANY AGE.

There are many different ways to treat this problem, but we have had great results with the use of our Magnetic Dogbeds. They are very effective and completely safe. You can also use them alongside any other treatment your Veterinarian feels is indicated.

We normally see improvement within the first 2 weeks of continuous usage, and often they will continue to keep improving for the first couple of months.

Back pain

Back pain should be investigated with your Veterinarian to determine the cause. Often it is arthritis involving the vertebrae, or can actually be a disc problem. The dogbed will help in both those cases, however if the pain is particularly severe then the magnetic dogrug is what we would recommend. This has the advantage of positioning the magnets straight over the back, and allowing them to have longer contact with the problem area. Even with severe disc problems we have been able to assist those dogs, both in helping to control their pain, and in helping them to heal.

After Surgery

After surgery the body needs to heal itself. Magnetic fields will help this to be achieved. Particularly after Orthopedic surgery, as accelerated bone healing is one of the best documented effects of magnetic therapy. There are some Veterinarians now insisting on magnetic mattresses for their recovering surgical patients.

Performance

Whether a dog is involved in high intensity work like racing, flyball, agility or obedience, or whether they are show dogs who have to maintain correct posture in the ring, their performances will be improved if they are in better physical shape. This is an area where Magnetic field therapy can be extremely beneficial, both in aiding recovery after exercise, and by encouraging supple muscles which can do their work much more easily. In both cases performance will be significantly helped.

Prevention

Maintaining a healthy musculoskeletal system is key to preventing injury & maintaining peak performance. Muscles commonly develop spasms & shortening from minor injuries. This will change the way the legs work and increase the strain on the joints & predispose to joint injuries & arthritis. The regular use of a magnetic bed will encourage better recovery after exercise & allow muscles to return to their normal function. This will decrease the load on the joints and make injury much less likely.

About our Dogbeds.

We researched heavily when  designing our Dogbeds and I drew on my years of experience in Veterinary Practice as well as my knowledge of Magnetic Therapies. The result is an exceptional product that I am happy to stand behind. Our Dogbed has 1000 gauss magnets arranged in a strategic pattern to provide effective coverage over the whole bed. These Magnets are on a base of medium density foam, and covered in a vinyl pouch. The outer cover is medical grade lambswool for maximum comfort, extra cushioning, and its great insulation properties. The cover simply velcroes off for washing (wool cycle), and replacements are available.

About our Dogrugs

Our dogrugs were designed using my experience as a Veterinarian/Veterinary Chiropractor & Veterinary Acupuncturist. I treat a large range of dogs predominantly for back & arthritis problems. We have developed our dogrug to help manage those problems & so the magnets are where I commonly diagnose problems;- along the back, the hips, stifles & elbows. They are intended more for dogs with acute problems who need 24hr/day help. With our own aged German Shepherd he maintains just fine on the bed most of the time, but when he overdoes it, he goes back into his rug for a few days until he is happy again.
